Meet Mark Wilson
5 Star Music School Founder/Instructor
Specializing In Guitar, Bass Guitar, Chapman Stick, Ukulele & Drums Lessons

"I'm Mark Wilson — instructor, author, recording artist and performer. I’ve taught music for over 25 years. During this period, I designed an efficient, productive and affordable lesson system that accelerates the progress of all students. I developed the 5 Star Method for guitar, bass, Chapman Stick, vocals, ukulele and percussion.

The 5 Star Music Method was designed with ease-of-use in mind — ideal for instructing all levels of students, from beginners to advanced. The 5 Star Music Method consists of 12 books and play-along CDs.

As a recording artist, I have released two independently distributed commercial CDs (available in the 5 Star Music Store). A third CD is on the way. The 5 Star School for Music offers a wide variety of popular opportunities for students of all ages and levels.

These range from private music instruction to group music workshops, even recording in our studio, plus live performances. Whatever your goal, skill level and dream, it’s all here for you.
In my opinion, one-on-one instruction has become a lost art form.

Let our teachers share the gift of music with you and show you how rewarding and relaxing the experience of playing music can be. The key to success is opportunity and motivation. Our program offers both.”

Meet Instructor Karen Ruth
Specializing In One-On-One Private Lessons For Guitar, Bass, Voice, Drums& Ukulele
“A teacher’s dedication to each and every student is one of the most precious gifts found at any school. That’s why I feel it’s so important to provide all of my students with a long-lasting commitment to their personal and musical growth at 5 Star School for Music. My own background is ideally suited for a relaxing and successful instructional environment.
I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree from a teaching school in Massachusetts, where an important part of my curriculum included music. I’ve also been playing the guitar since I was 12. I studied vocals in high school and college.

I was involved in a great deal of individual and group singing, as well as singing in a duo while in college and performing before different denominations at numerous churches.

What’s unique about the singing lessons I teach is that I focus on modern music rather than the classical music taught at other schools. Also, in addition to voice coaching, I also teach guitar so it gives my students the opportunity to combine guitar and voice lessons, if they so desire.
Our award-winning teaching approach here at 5 Star School for Music provides an integrated exploration of music for all students, especially those who haven’t found their own unique musical outlet. We expose students to various instruments, such as guitar, bass, drums, and ukulele.
Our highly unusual method gets great results. We often hear from parents and students that the 5 Star Music Method is fun and friendly — and it works well for new students who are “green” and not sure where to start.

It's our opinion, the best learning environment should be relaxed comfortable, yet structured with gentle guidance that allows students to grow at their own pace all while steering students in the right direction on their musical journey."

Meet Instructor
Josh Gonzalez-Beban
SpecializingIn One-On-One-Guitar, Bass, Drums & Ukulele Lessons

Josh is a familiar face at 5 Star School for Music. He started out as a student eight years ago, and over the years, he proved he had the “right stuff” to become a teacher.

He brings a great personality and gentle presence to the school. Plus, as a 25-year-old teacher, he rounds out the teaching staff at 5 Star School for
Music — a school known for offering teachers for every style of student, leading to a perfect fit.

Because Josh is a younger teacher, one who participated in 5 Star School for Music workshops, high school hard-rock bands and even his own performance bands, he’s perfect for students looking for someone versed in today’s younger and “edgier” music. (He currently studies modern music recording and sound engineering at college.)

Josh, who possesses a strong comprehension and command of music fundamentals and technique, is gifted in teaching the 5 Star Program of instructional materials to beginners and younger students.

Josh says, “With respect to music, proper technique is important. Great technique learned through the right teacher leads to much faster, and easier, growth as a musician.”

Regarding Josh’s favorite aspect about teaching, he enjoys sharing his passion for music. He knows exactly what it feels like to be a student, and a beginner, and so he knows exactly how to teach such students with the quickest results in the most comfortable and relaxed environment possible.

“I love teaching here," says Josh, "because the school believes that music style is subjective, an individual experience and personal taste. We never judge students on the music they like.”
